Collection: Rum Baba 🇳🇱

Rum Baba was born in Amsterdam East from Jeroen Keyzer and Lusan's wish to create an espresso bar worthy of their travels. Colourful packaging, experimental lots, among the first to use "thermal shock": the house is seen as Amsterdam's boldest roaster.

Before Rum Baba, there was Coffee Bru, one of Amsterdam's first specialty coffee shops, opened in the Oost district by Joris Kobussen, Marielusan Drost and her partner Jeroen Keyzer. The trio also opened Rum Baba, a coffee bar with a bakery. The roastery was first meant to supply the company's two cafés, but wholesale customers soon followed. A tea brand, Monkey Chief, was launched at the same time.

A Candy Shop for Coffee

Rum Baba embraces colour-saturated packaging: in the Elandsgracht shop, Jeroen wants you to feel like you are walking into a candy shop. Yet the technical rigour is very much there. The "Liquid Diamonds" range brings together rare micro-lots, and the numbered "Kaleidoscope" series explores experimental processes, from anaerobic fermentation to thermal shock. The company roasts on an IMF, a machine comparable to the Loring in energy efficiency.

Amsterdam and Haarlem

Rum Baba now has two addresses in Amsterdam: Pretoriusstraat 15, a shop, brew bar and bakery serving its famous marble cake, and Elandsgracht 134. The roastery, based in Haarlem, can be visited by appointment. In 2022, Maru Mallee, head of training and production roaster, won the Dutch AeroPress Championship with a washed Peruvian coffee from Los Coronados. Every month, free cuppings offer a chance to taste the range. The company buys more and more directly from producers, and sums itself up like this: "While we take our coffee extremely serious, we keep the experience fun."
