Monta Coffee Co. roasts in Leesburg, Virginia, an hour from Washington. Its founder, Jaime Matamoros, has put Ecuador at the heart of his range, a terroir still under-represented in specialty coffee. Every bag carries the name of the producer and the farm: a honey-processed Typica Mejorado from Mario Hervas at Finca Meridiano, or a natural Typica Mejorado from Leonidas Jaramillo at Finca El Alisal.

Ecuador and Colombia

The menu also reaches into Colombia, with cutting-edge lots: a washed Geisha from Yessica Parra at Finca El Mirador, a thermal-shock natural Ombligon from Nestor and Adrian Lasso at Finca El Diviso, or a Tabi from Oscar Hernandez at Finca Nogales. Coffees are roasted on Wednesdays, to order. Jaime is also a familiar face in the Aillio community, having run its booth at several events.

A Bag That Tells the Origin

At the end of 2024, Monta launched new packaging designed by studio Indigo, featured on the SCA Coffee Design Awards showcase. The materials are biodegradable and recyclable, the patterns draw on Ecuador, and a card slipped into each bag details the origin, the process and the producer's story. The company has also roasted an Ecuadorian lactic washed Sidra for xBloom's "Secret Stash" selection, and offers a range of artisanal teas, "Tea That Tells the Story of Its Land".
