Moklair was born in Reims from the meeting of two competition baristas, Kevin David and Charity Cheung. During the Covid period, they bought a small 2.5kg roaster and started roasting in a garage, batch after batch. In 2022, the house moved into a professional workshop and opened its coffee shop at 1 rue Andrieux, in Reims.

Two French Champions

Kevin David, co-founder and head roaster, became French Barista Champion in 2022, then again in 2025, which sent him to represent France at the World Barista Championship. Charity Cheung, who was heading for a career in real estate before discovering coffee, became French Brewers Cup Champion. In just a few years, the house has piled up titles, a rare track record for a roastery of this size.

Light Roasts That Let the Origin Speak

Moklair selects coffees scoring 85 and above on the SCA scale and roasts them light, to keep the sweetness and acidity of each origin. The selection changes with the harvests, from Colombia to Ethiopia, Rwanda to Uganda. At the rue Andrieux counter, coffees are served as espresso and filter alike, with the precision you would expect from baristas used to championship stages.
