KB Roasters: the origins

Inspiration from Australia

KB Roasters has its roots in the experience of Nicolas Piégay, its founder. After a stay in Australia, he discovered the specialty coffee culture, particularly widespread in Melbourne and Sydney. This philosophy, focused on quality, unique flavours and coffee traceability, inspired him to bring the concept to France. The name "KB" is a tribute to the Australian kookaburra bird, symbolising that inspiration.

KB Roasters' First Steps in Paris

In 2010, Nicolas Piégay opened KB Cafeshop in Pigalle, near rue des Martyrs. It was one of the first places in Paris to serve specialty coffee. Initially working with renowned roasters such as Square Mile and Five Elephant, the café quickly attracted customers curious about this new approach.

The Evolution of KB Roasters

The Move to Independent Roasting

In 2015, KB Roasters took a decisive step by becoming its own roaster. The activity began in a shared space, The Beans On Fire, allowing full control over the quality and aromatic profiles of the coffees.

The Opening of Back in Black

In 2019, KB Roasters opened its second venue, Back in Black, at 25 rue Amelot in the 11th arrondissement. This spacious 200 m² venue combines:

  • An on-site roasting workshop.
  • A kitchen serving homemade dishes such as pancakes, scones and scrambled eggs.
  • A modern, friendly atmosphere where customers can watch the roasting process.

KB Roasters' Roasting Philosophy

KB Roasters takes a unique approach to roasting. The beans are carefully selected to guarantee freshness, often from the latest harvests. The roast is light, in order to reveal the unique flavours of each origin. This method contrasts with the dark roasts that prevail in France.

A Selection of Exceptional Coffees

The coffees offered by KB Roasters come from close relationships with farms and cooperatives. The emphasis is on traceability and bean quality, and they can be brewed with a variety of methods such as the V60, Chemex or AeroPress.

KB Roasters' Impact on the Paris Scene

Since its beginnings, KB Roasters has played a major role in the emergence of specialty coffee in Paris. By introducing innovative practices and educating the public, the company has become a key player in Third Wave Coffee in France.

International Recognition

KB Roasters has been featured in prestigious publications such as Vogue, which praised their commitment to quality and innovation.
