Collection: Field Coffee Roasters 🇩🇪

Australian cousins based in Berlin, Morgan Love and James Maguire launched Silo Coffee, then Commonground. In 2021, with Kresten Thøgersen, they opened Field Coffee, their roastery in Marzahn, with a motto: "Good vibes & great coffee. It's pretty simple."

Field Coffee was born in Berlin in 2021, the little sister of Fjord Coffee Roasters, a Berlin roaster founded in 2016. Where Fjord explores cutting-edge lots, Field aims for immediate pleasure, with five blends whose names make you smile: Cherry Ripe, Milky Way, Dark Horse, Pan Am and Good Sleeper, an omni-roast decaf. The house motto: "Made for taste, not for show."

One Roastery

Fjord was founded by three figures of Berlin's café scene: Kresten Thøgersen, an Australian with Danish roots who created the Father Carpenter café in Mitte, Morgan Love, of Silo Coffee, and James Maguire. Kresten has since stepped back from day-to-day management to develop Father Carpenter as an independent roastery; Morgan Love and James Maguire now run both brands. Fjord and Field are roasted at the Marzahn roastery, on a 12kg cast-iron Probat that combines conduction and convection.

On sourcing, the team prefers to buy larger volumes from seven or eight partners rather than small quantities from fifty producers, notably in El Salvador, Brazil and Colombia. This means they also buy a producer's everyday lots, not just their competition showcase.

Coffees in Collaboration

With its "Collaborative Coffees", Field creates bespoke coffees for Berlin businesses: Goldhahn und Sampson, a cookbook and pantry shop, Kiez Kaffee Kraft, and Ucon Acrobatics, just down the road from the roastery, for whom artist Leif Podhajsky created a limited-edition print. The "Cycling x Coffee" collection continues a long-running collaboration with Standert, the Berlin bike builder.
